Jenkins Stream Slip

Client: Nelson City Council
Location: Enner Glynn Road
This project was a result of significant rain events in December 2011 that caused high river levels to erode the river bank and created a hazard for motorists travelling on the road alongside. The project involved installing a new rock wall to not only support the road but also direct water downstream in a manageable way that prevented further erosion. A thirteen tonne excavator was used in the stream to delicately place one metre diameter rocks to the engineer’s precise specifications. Once the rockwork was completed, unsuitable material was removed from above the wall and replaced with imported fill and then compacted to support the road. Topsoil was placed on the steep sixty-six degree slopes then hydro seeding was sprayed the next day to hold it all together.

This successful project was completed with time to spare and under-budget.
