Pohara Four Winds Pump Station
Donaldson Civil won this project with the client being Tasman District Council. The scope consisted of a main pipeline and a new pump station on the main road into the beachside town of Pohara in Golden Bay.
The pipeline install was for 1,041m of 280mm PE100 SDR13.6 pipeline in the roadway. This included two creek culvert crossings that needed to be carefully managed as there was a risk of sediment entering the waterways by the excavations. As well as several air valves and drain points along the route of the pipeline.
Connection to the existing main at one end involved some planning and was managed well with no sewer spills.
Careful consideration was made for Businesses along the route, with consistent communication and the management team keeping them informed and happy.
Wet well installation was for a new PE wet well to 4.5m below existing ground level, this was placed inside sheet piles. With the beach just 100m away, extensive dewatering, including treating through sediment tanks to discharge to water ways was needed and managed well by our skill subcontractor ARC projects. New Valve chambers and storage tanks were sourced from local suppliers and installed to make up the asset.
