Scott Construction 64 Nile Street

Working as a subcontractor to Scott Construction, Donaldson Civil’s scope included the removal of demolished concrete, site stripping and build-up, earthworks and boring for retaining walls, and the installation of underground sewer, stormwater and water reticulation for the housing complex. We also completed the connections to the Council network, reinstatement works along Nile Street, and construction of the driveway and entranceway.

The project was undertaken on a tight site with a school immediately adjacent, requiring careful planning and coordination around restricted access times. Site access was locked down between 8.15am and 9.00am and again between 2.45pm and 3.15pm to accommodate school traffic.

The site layout was heavily influenced by the conditions of the resource consent, including the protection of existing trees, which dictated how underground services could be installed. This required a range of installation methods to be used throughout the project. Sections of power duct were directionally drilled, while sewer and stormwater services beneath a protected tree were pipe rammed using steel sleeves. Within the complex, traditional open-cut methods were used, including the installation of multiple services at varying grades within the same trench.

Clear and direct communication with Scott Construction’s site team was critical to keeping the project moving, particularly during the finishing stages when multiple subcontractors were working on site simultaneously. Through effective planning, coordination and communication, the project was completed on time and to a high standard, delivering a successful outcome for the client.
